How Zawadi Bengals Began…

Hi, my name is Connie Henderson (Bengal breeder), and I am the mother of Zawadi Bengals. We are hobby breeders of beautiful Bengals within our home.We are located in Swindon, Wiltshire in the United Kingdom. I’d like to share with you how I got started…

My husband Stuart and I have always taken a great interest in animals and in 1995, we went on Safari in Kenya, Africa. During our stay, I spotted a stray cat near our apartments, which had an incredible spotted coat with a face bearing the distinct features of a wild cat. From that moment on, I decided that when I returned home, I was going to search for a cat just like it. We saw many amazing animals, people and places in Africa that will live on in our memories, but it was sighting that special little spotted cat that would turn out to be Africa’s greatest “gift” to us.

When we arrived home, I began searching diligently through cat magazines and eventually found exactly what I was looking for—the Bengal Cat. Finally, in 1996, after carefully researching the Bengal breed, I bought “Bamburi” or “Beauty” as I call her. This was just the beginning of my passion for Bengal cats. My enthusiasm continues and has grown. I have since purchased many more Bengals establishing a successful breeding programme.

Because my dream began in Africa, I wanted a prefix name for my Bengal breeding programme that related to Africa. I considered many Swahili names with relevant meanings, but “zawadi” just felt right. Zawadi is Swahilian for “gift” and true to their name, these Bengals are indeed a special gift. Our cats consistently give their owners an abundance of affection and pleasure and provide loving companionship for many years.

For me, the breeding and care of Bengal cats is a labour of love. Because temperament is just as important as looks, all Zawadi Bengals are house bred, handled daily and are very friendly.

Bengals are quite simply amazing characters that you just have to meet to fully appreciate. So, please contact us to arrange a meeting with our beautiful Bengals and let that be our gift to you.

Regards - Connie Henderson
